Microsoft has released Windows 10 build 14396 for PCs and mobile devices enrolled in the fast ring of the Windows Insider program.

The new build previews the Windows 10 Redstone 2 update due in the summer and doesn’t bring any significant features, but instead continues improving the overall performance of the operating system in anticipation of more substantial changes that are prepared for the next months.

What’s new in build 14936?

First and foremost, just like the latest few builds, this new one comes with a bunch of Microsoft Edge extensions, including Turn Off the Lights, which improves the video watching experience by dimming out the rest of the website.

Furthermore, Microsoft says that it needs help with testing out some other extensions, as more feedback is necessary for Microsoft Personal Shopping Assistant and Tapermonkey.

Microsoft says this build also introduces some authentication changes affecting connectivity to NAS devices and home file servers.

“After updating to the latest Insider Preview builds, you may have noticed that shared devices on your home network have disappeared from your home network folder. You may have also noticed your mapped network drives are not available. If you change your network to ‘private’ or ‘enterprise,’ it should start working again,” the company explains.

Additionally, the Windows Subsystem for Linux has been improved with Ubuntu version 16.04, which replaces Ubuntu 14.04, and Microsoft says that only those setting up new instances will get the new version. Existing instances where Ubuntu 14.04 is running cannot be upgraded automatically.

Just like all the other builds, this new one comes with other smaller improvements, but also with known issues for both PCs and mobile devices, and you can check them out in the box after the jump. For the moment, however, this build doesn’t bring any substantial changes, but for Windows insiders, it’s still worth installing given the performance improvements and the bug fixes that it includes.
