Microsoft pushes the build to new Lumia devices

Microsoft has silently starting shipping the latest version of Windows 10 Mobile to Lumia 950 and 950 XL devices, regardless of whether they are enrolled in the Windows Insider program or not.

Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.36 was released earlier this week for members of the Insider program, but it turns out that no major bug has been found and it can run very smoothly on Microsoft's new flagship phones.

The build doesn't seem to be available on our Lumia 950 XL, but WBI writes that it's now being rolled out across the world, so some are seeing it, others are not, at least for the moment.

The rollout could take up to 48 hours, so waiting seems to be the only option right now. Additionally, we're hearing from some of our readers that resetting the phones could force the new build to show up, but this isn't clearly the primary option for too many users.

Fixing installation issues

Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.36 was released this week to address installation issues that impacted Lumia 950 and 950 XL trying to install .29.

“This build continues to address feedback we’ve received from Windows Insiders as well as customers using our brand new Windows 10 phones like the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. As with the previous release, this Cumulative Update continues to use the minor version for differentiating between each version – so this build will appear as 10586.36,” Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, explained.

It's worth noting that no new features are part of this build, so it's exclusively targeting bugs that previously blocked a number of devices from updating to the latest version.

Lumia 950 and 950 XL are Microsoft's flagship devices and frequent updates are critical for their performance, as bugs and issues still exist here and there. Unfortunately, no new updates would be provided until early 2016, so this is the latest patch we're getting in 2015.
