Windows 10 keeps growing on Steam, and new statistics provided by Valve for its gaming platform show that the new operating system has reached a new record, posting another increase, while all the other platforms have lost users.

The 64-bit version of Windows 10 is currently the leading operating system on Steam with a share of 44.93 percent, followed by Windows 7 64-bit with 29.70 percent. The difference, however, is increasing between the two, and last month alone, Windows 10 improved its share by 1.99 percent while Windows 7 dropped by 0.91 percent.

The third desktop OS in Steam charts is Windows 8.1 64-bit with 9.38 percent, so the gap between the first two leading choices and the other is quite huge. But what’s more important is that Windows 10 was the only Windows version that actually improved its share, as all the others declined during the month of July.

Overall, Windows increased by 0.19 percent, mostly thanks to Windows 10, which managed to overcome the drop experienced by all the other Windows versions.

Mac OS X and Linux still far behind

On the other hand, Mac OS X lost 0.20 percent of its market share on Steam, so it’s now at 3.40 percent, while Linux improved by 0.02 percent and is being used by 0.82 percent of gamers who’re playing on Valve’s platform.

Whatever the reason for Windows 10’s rapid growth - many claim it’s thanks to DirectX 12 - the new operating system is likely to continue this ascending trend in the coming months, especially because Microsoft is getting ready to introduce the Anniversary Update, a large pack of improvements bringing plenty of new features to desktop users.

The Anniversary Update is projected to launch today for desktop and mobile phone users, so an impact on Steam is expected to be recorded in the statistics provided by Valve for the ongoing month and likely to be published on September 1.
