Update previously listed as not compatible with the hardware

As many Windows 10 users found out the hard way, the April 2018 Update doesn’t provide exactly the flawless experience that they anticipated, as critical bugs in the OS cause anything from crashes to BSODs and bricked PCs.

One of the least expected issues impacted Microsoft’s very own hardware, as the Surface Studio couldn’t be upgraded to the latest Windows 10 release due to a fairly unexpected error.

Users who posted on Microsoft’s Community forums last month indicate that installing Windows 10 April 2018 Update on Surface Studio failed because of the update not listed as compatible with the hardware.

Without a doubt, this is an error that doesn’t make any sense given that both the update and the device are built by Microsoft, and the software giant itself pulled the April 2018 Update temporarily in order to ship a fix.

Update once again available

The problem was finally resolved earlier this month, and now the Surface Studio can be once again upgraded to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update without any issue.

“Microsoft was blocking Surface Studio from installing the April 2018 Update due to a known incompatibility that may have caused a connected Bluetooth accessory to stop responding. This block has now been removed and you should be able to install the April 2018 Update by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update,” a Microsoft agent said on the forums (via onMSFT).

This wasn’t the only problem that the Surface Studio experienced with the April 2018 Update. Users have been complaining that an issue encountered after the upgrade caused the mouse and keyboard input to be disabled all of a sudden.

Microsoft acknowledged this bug as well and promised a fix, explaining that in the meantime, turning to the touch input temporarily typically restores mouse and keyboard functionality when the issue occurs.
