14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft’s latest statistics provided in January revealed that Windows 10 was running on 200 million devices at that time, with the company claiming that businesses account for 22 million of that figure.
New research conducted by Spiceworks reveals that Windows 10 adoption in the business industry is still improving, and according to new figures, the operating system has already reached an 18 percent penetration rate in this particular market in just 6 months of availability. And obviously, figures should grow bigger in the coming months, as part of Microsoft’s free upgrade offer.
Better adoption figures than Windows 7
This means that Windows 10 is the fastest-adopted operating system in the business environment, the research shows, as it managed to outclass its predecessors (including Windows 7, that is, as Windows 8 adoption was well below expectations in both the consumer and the business markets).
“The Windows 10 penetration rate has increased by 7 percentage points since last October. Additionally, last time we said Windows 10 was the most quickly adopted Windows operating system ever, and the same remains true today,” the study shows.
“It took approximately 1 year for Windows 7 and more than 15 months for Windows 8 to pass the 200 million device usage mark. Windows 10 accomplished the same feat in approximately half the time of Windows 7.”
Specifically, Windows 10 adoption goes the best in North America, where the operating system has already reached a penetration rate of 19.3 percent, followed by EMEA with 18.1 percent. Latin America and APAC come next with 16.1 and 14.4 percent, respectively.
Software companies are obviously leading the charts with industries deploying Windows 10, followed by manufacturing, energy, construction, and surprisingly, government. Only last week, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 would be installed on 4 million PCs owned by the US government.
Windows 10 will continue to be offered as a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs until July 29, 2016, so all these figures are expected to be improved even more in the coming months.
