Microsoft has introduced a black theme in Windows 10 that expanded across more sections of the OS with the Anniversary Update, but users are now hoping to get even more improvements in this regard and ask the company to develop a “dark grey” visual style.

And a post published in the Feedback Hub available on Windows 10 summarizes the main reasons why such a theme would be a worthy addition to the desktop operating system, explaining that it’s more appropriate for graphic artists and coders, while at the same time makes the transition to full white windows a lot easier for the eye.

“Dark grey is better than a pure black theme since it helps with eye strain and allows images to be contrast against the dark grey with greater visual balance. For example you can’t contrast an image with a lot of black in it against a black theme,” the post in the Feedback Hub explains.

“The image will fade into the black of the theme. Also a black theme makes full white images blinding. A dark grey theme puts your eyes in a more balanced state so that bright images aren't blinding against it and dark images contrast well against it in the opposite direction.”

Third-party themes to the rescue

There are many users who think that the black theme available in Windows 10 Anniversary Update is too dark and claim that it doesn’t look good, so Microsoft should offer the option to choose from a larger palette of colors and give them more customization power.

It goes without saying that users are always expecting Microsoft to offer more and more customization settings, but in the case of themes, options are pretty limited. You can still install third-party themes, but this involves additional tweaks, such as installing software that patches system files to allow the installation of such add-ons.
