WhatsApp is getting a lot of new useful features these days, and according to a recent report, the company is currently working on a highly anticipated update specifically aimed at iPhone owners.

More specifically, WABetaInfo reveals that WhatsApp is working on an option that allows users to recover deleted messages.

In other words, if you’ve accidentally deleted a message in WhatsApp conversation and you want to get it back, the messaging app will offer a dedicated option to recover it. Currently part of the most recent beta build for iOS, this option will show up next to the label that lets users the message has been removed.

Currently in the beta development stage

At this point, however, it’s not yet clear just how long the undo button will continue to be visible in the conversation window. The option to delete sent messages, however, is available only for 60 minutes after sending a new message in a private or a group chat.

“In order for messages to be successfully deleted for everyone, you and the recipients must be using the latest version of WhatsApp. Recipients using WhatsApp for iOS may still have media you sent saved to their Photos, even after the message is deleted from the WhatsApp chat. Recipients might see your message before it's deleted or if deletion wasn’t successful. You won’t be notified if deleting for everyone wasn’t successful. You only have about an hour after you've sent a message to request to Delete for Everyone,” WhatsApp explains.

It goes without saying the new feature won’t show up overnight. It’s currently available for beta testers, so WhatsApp still needs more time to make sure everything is working as expected.

For the time being, however, there’s no way to recover deleted messages, so just double-check twice before pressing the erase button in a conversation window.
