14 DAY TRIAL // WhatsApp’s View Once media option is about to get a major facelift, as the most recent beta build of the application comes with some pretty cool improvements.
WABetaInfo is reporting that WhatsApp will soon block users from taking screenshots of images and videos shared with the View Once media option.
In other words, the main loophole in this feature is being resolved, though there are several things that you need to know about the way it works.
More specifically, when you take a screenshot of the media, you should see an option that the screenshot has been blocked automatically. Unlikely other apps, such as Telegram, WhatsApp isn’t alerting your contact that you’re trying to take a screenshot.
No ETA for the rollout just yet
On the other hand, you can still take screenshots of the conversations where the View Once media is being shared. As a result, you’re not blocked to take screenshots of the messages, as the new feature only concerns photos and videos.
Needless to say, there’s no way to block the loophole that includes taking a photo of the media shared with the View Once option. This is something that’s impossible to prevent regardless of the app though in Secret Chats on Telegram, users are required to keep pressing on the media to see it (so using another phone to take a photo is much more difficult).
At this point, however, it’s important to keep in mind that the improvements detailed here are still in the beta stage, so there’s no ETA as to when they could be released to production devices. Most likely, WhatsApp still needs to do some internal polishing before beginning the rollout in the stable versions of the application, so you’d better not hold your breath for these goodies for the time being.
