The new feature is now tested on the iOS version of the app

As many of you probably know by now, WhatsApp developers have kicked off beta programs for its instant messenger on all major mobile platforms: Android, iOS, and Windows Phone.

However, not many have access to beta builds. The good news is that those lucky to have been accepted into these beta programs offer inside information on the features WhatsApp continues to add through updates.

The latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS devices has recently made its way into testers' hands, and one of the new features that German blog Macerkopf.de claims have been added is video calling.

It looks like WhatsApp developers are now testing the video calling feature only on iOS platform, but we suspect that, if tests are completed successfully, then it will be made available on Android and possibly Windows Phone, too.

Unfortunately, Microsoft's mobile platform might be the last to receive the WhatsApp Messenger video calling feature, as the application is far behind its counterparts from other operating systems.

Multiple messaging tabs will be implemented too

Facebook plans to introduce some interesting new features to its WhatsApp application, including multiple messaging tabs that should enable dynamic switching between different instant messengers like Skype, Viber, FaceTime, and Messenger.

According to the person who received access to the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS, the application allows users to send or receive video calls directly via Wi-Fi or GSM networks.

The screenshots show that the new feature provides users with the ability to preview their face in a small window, as well as the option to reposition the preview windows on the iPhone's display.

Currently, WhatsApp Messenger offers VoIP (voice over IP) feature on all mobile platforms, including Android, iOS and Windows Phone.

The video calling feature will probably be added to the application sometime next year, but Windows Phone, sadly, won't be among the first to get it.
