New features improving the experience with WhatsApp Status

WhatsApp Status is slowly gaining more traction, and this week, the parent company announced a series of improvements that should help it in this regard.

This is because the new pack of features includes goodies that should have been there from the very beginning, but after all, it’s better late than never.

The first new WhatsApp Status improvement is support for choosing the contacts that would see what you post. You can define privacy settings for each status, with WhatsApp to then remember your configuration and use it for the next posts as well.

Then, WhatsApp Status is also being updated with support for voice recordings. You can create and share voice messages of up to 30 seconds.

Status reactions are finally coming to WhatsApp, and to be honest, I’m surprised it took the company this long to realize this should have been then from the moment Status went live. Even WhatsApp says this was the most popular feature request.

“We’re adding status reactions to provide a quick and easy way to respond to status updates from your friends and close contacts. This was the #1 feature users wanted, following the launch of Reactions last year. You can now quickly reply to any status by swiping up and tapping on one of eight emojis. You can of course still reply to a status with text, voice message, stickers and more,” the company says.

And last but not least, WhatsApp Status is getting profile rings to let you know when someone posted a new message, as well as link preview to see where an address is pointing you before tapping it.

“Now when you post a link on your status, you’ll automatically see a visual preview of the link content, just like when you send a message. Visual previews make your statuses look better, and also give your contacts a better idea of what the link is before they click,” the company says.

All the new features will start rolling out to users in the coming weeks.
