WhatsApp might be working on a feature that would allow users to edit sent messages in a conversation. The new tool was spotted in a WhatsApp build for iOS, but if the rumor is true, it should be featured on Android devices as well.

There are times when we send a message and instantly regret it or would like to remove it from the message board or group conversation. Twitter channel WABetaInfo, a source of early WhatsApp news, discovered a new feature for editing and deleting sent messages in WhatsApp 2.17.1.869 beta build for iOS.

The post also shows a video illustrating the message deletion process. You simply need to tap and hold on a sent message in order to view a list of options, including the revoke tool. The feature allows you to delete a message from a conversation, even if it’s a read message. The video shows the check marks next to the message set for removal. It seems that even messages containing multimedia files, like images, can be revoked.

The feature could arrive to WhatsApp for Android too

The menu also includes an edit button which can be used for amending the content of sent messages. Apparently, the edit button will be disabled by default. The revoked message will be removed from the conversation, which means that neither the sender nor the receiver will be able to see it.

The rumor seems to be limited solely to the iOS version of WhatsApp, but it’s highly likely that the new feature will be made available in the Android version as well.

Recently, WhatsApp introduced video calling across all platforms, making the feature available for more than 1 billion users in just a few days. The messaging app could also introduce a Snapchat-like status feature for users in the coming versions.
