Moving from Android to iPhone or the other way around is theoretically an easy process, but the lack of migration support for some apps makes the whole thing much more complicated.

For example, WhatsApp, which is currently one of the most popular messaging apps out there, has until now lacked an option to move chats from iPhone to Android and the other way around, with the process therefore involving third-party apps that obviously made the process way too complex for the average Joe.

The Facebook-owned company has recently announced that the ability to move chats from one platform to another is now available on WhatsApp.

“A new way to keep the chats that mean the most. Today, you’ll have the ability to transfer your entire chat history from Android to iOS and vice versa. Now you have the freedom to switch to and from your preferred devices,” WhatsApp announced on Twitter.

Android users can now move data to iPhone

The latest update basically enables the transition from Android to iPhone, and a dedicated support page published by WhatsApp reveals that users need to be running at least Android Lollipop and iOS 15.5 on the destination iPhone, as well as the latest versions of the WhatsApp client. The iPhone must be new or reset, and the Android device must be running the Move to iOS app to be able to move the data.

“If you're moving from an Android phone to an iPhone, you can transfer your account information, profile photo, individual chats, group chats, chat history, media, and settings. You can’t transfer your call history or display name,” WhatsApp explains.

The process comes down to a few easy steps, with all the data transferred without cloud support, which means that you don’t need an Internet connection for the migration. The data will remain on the Android device after the process is complete.
