Accidental message removal finally tackled with Undo button

WhatsApp is by far the top mobile messaging platform out there, and with such a large userbase, it makes sense for the parent company to focus not only on big new features but also on smaller refinements that improve the overall experience with certain functionality.

This is precisely the purpose of a feature that WhatsApp has silently added in the latest update on both iPhone and Android.

But despite not being announced in an official press release, it’s kind of big news.

First and foremost, the new feature is actually an “Undo” button for the message removal confirmation that you get when deleting a message from a confirmation.

The new feature is now rolling out to WhatsApp users

Will Cathcart, the head of WhatsApp, explained on Twitter that the Undo button shows up when using the “Delete for me” button, simply because the purpose of this feature is to prevent those accidents when you hit this option when, in fact, you wanted to delete a message for everyone in the conversation.

“We've added the option to undo 'Delete for me' for those times when you mean to delete for everyone but accidentally deleted for just yourself,” Cathcart said.

Before this update, whenever you removed a message from a confirmation, it was gone for good. Thanks to this improvement, after deleting the message, you should now see an Undo button, which when tapped, brings back the message removal options, letting you choose if you want to this just for you or for everyone in the conversation.

The new feature is now rolling out to users on iPhone and Android, but the whole thing is happening gradually, so if it’s not there for you just yet, there’s no other option than to wait. Of course, you should also make sure you are running the most recent WhatsApp version on your smartphone.
