You can now mute a contact in WhatsApp indefinitely

WhatsApp is a great messaging app, there’s no doubt about, but on the other hand, it comes with a series of shortcomings that the parent company really doesn’t seem to be very keen on fixing.

One of them is the contact muting options, which do not allow users to block notifications from a specific contact without actually choosing for how long this is supposed to happen.

In other words, if you want to mute a contact, you must choose between 8 hours, one week, and one year. What happens after one year? The contact is automatically unmuted, so you begin receiving notifications once again.

The Facebook-owned company is now working to resolve this thing with a dedicated “always” button that would be added in a future update.

Signs of such an option were spotted earlier this year, and now WABetaInfo notes that an always setting is being added in the latest beta build released by WhatsApp.

Mute a contact indefinitely

Thanks to this addition, when you mute a contact you now have to choose between 8 hours, one week, and always, so the new option replaces the one year entry.

Certainly, it’ll still take a while until WhatsApp brings this feature to all users, and honestly, such small updates should definitely be released much faster to those on Android devices and iPhones. This isn’t something really groundbreaking, but overall, WhatsApp doesn’t seem to be in a rush to bring new features to its users anyway.

For now, the good news is that it’s now just a matter of time until the new contact muting option goes live for Android devices, though I think WhatsApp wants to bring to iPhone users at the same time. The company has remained completely tight-lipped on this new feature so far.
