The folks over at WhatsApp have recently released a new version of their instant messenger on Android platform. The latest update has brought several major new features that weren't previously available, such as the option to mark messages with stars.

The update was only made available to Android users, but it looks like the Windows Phone version of WhatsApp has snagged a major update as well.

Even though not all the new features and improvements included in the Android application are available for Windows Phone users, at least some of them have been added in the latest update.

According to NPU, the most important enhancement included in this update is the ability to highlight or mark messages with stars, just like in the Android version.

In order to do that, simply long-press and star a message that you want to see later in “Featured Messages” from the menu at the bottom.

Two aspects of the application have been improved with tweaks and other small changes that should make them easier to use.

The Photo & video upload interface has been redesigned to offer a better user experience. Also, there's a new Camera interface in WhatsApp that you can now take a look at.

Additional small improvements might have been added too

Apparently, these are all the changes included in the latest update for WhatsApp for Windows Phone. Beta testers might have already recognized some of these new features, as developers usually release them for WhatsApp beta first.

The latest update bumps WhatsApp Messenger for Windows Phone to version 2.12.212.0, so if you’ve already captured it, let us know in the comments section if you have noticed any other changes in addition to the ones we mentioned.

If you don't have the application yet, you can now download WhatsApp for Windows Phone for free via Windows Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices running Windows Phone 8 and up.
