One of BBM's main competitors in the instant messaging market, WhatsApp, has just received a substantial update that adds some enhancements to already existing features and fixes some issues introduced in previous versions.

The good news is the folks over at WhatsApp have been kind enough to provide users with an official changelog, so we already know the main improvements included in this update.

First of all, developers confirmed they have added support for some additional web client features, including message info and recent emoji sync.

Another significant enhancement included in the update is the added support for web link previews on outgoing messages.

This feature has been available for Android and iOS users for quite some time, but it's only been added to the BlackBerry application recently.

New organization of phone numbers

The changelog also mentions the team behind WhatsApp Messenger has updated organization of phone numbers on the Contact Info screen. Also, message history backup process should now cause fewer issues with standard application functionality.

Furthermore, developers claim the update is meant to provide a fix for issues connecting via proxy servers, so those who had this problem in the past should try out the new version of WhatsApp and see whether or not the bug has been fixed.

These are all the new features and improvements in this update, but BlackBerry users should rest easy as WhatsApp will continue to provide them with new changes pretty often, hopefully, at the same time Android and iOS users get them.

Speaking of which, WhatsApp also included a fair share of miscellaneous fixes and update to the newest version of its BlackBerry 10 application.

If you don't have the application yet, you can now download WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10 for free via BlackBerry World. The instant messenger is only compatible with devices powered by BlackBerry 10 and up.
