The new version hasn't been pushed to Windows Store

The beta version of WhatsApp Messenger usually receives more updates than the stable versions that get published in various app stores.

The Windows Phone application is no exception to the rule, so if you have WhatsApp beta installed on the smartphone, then you've probably got a new update that should bump the app to version 2.12.198.

If you don't plan on using the beta version of WhatsApp, then here are some of the new features and improvements that you might or might not receive in the next update for the stable application.

As per WindowsPhoneApp.es report, WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone has received a new option in the latest update that allows users to select or deselect favorite messages. The update has also brought a new shortcut at the bottom menu, where users will find all starred messages.

The stable version might get these small changes very soon

This new function allows users to star a message inside a chat. Simply tap on that message, and a drop-down menu will appear with a few options. You can then choose the star-shaped icon display that will be marked to show in the “Featured Posts” with the date/time.

However, the marked messages do not show the identity of the person who sent them, just the timing. Hopefully, this option will be added in a future update. Also, all Featured (starred) messages now appear on the profile page.

Last but not least, several under-the-hood improvements have been implemented too, but no additional details are available yet.

The latest version of WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone is not available for download via Windows Store. In fact, you must be admitted into the beta program to be able to install it on your smartphone.

If you don't have access to the beta, at least you've been informed of the upcoming new features and improvements that should be part of the upcoming update for WhatsApp Messenger for Windows Phone.
