14 DAY TRIAL // WhatsApp is certainly one of the most popular messaging applications out there, with a fast-growing rate partially thanks to the fact that it constantly receives updates and improvements. We reported a few days ago that WhatsApp on iOS would soon come with support for animated GIFs, and it seems that the app will boast additional tools on the Android version as well.
As it turns out, WhatsApp is currently testing the message quotes and replies feature for Android users. AndroidPolice reports that the message quotes feature appears in some versions of WhatsApp, so it’s not exclusive to the latest beta version.
However, you have the highest chance to check out the feature if you update to the WhatsApp 2.16.118 beta. Received quotes messages should appear in older versions of the app as well.
Quoted messages are a feature that allows users to select replies from a conversation and incorporate them into their own replies, with the option to add some more text to them. This feature could prove quite useful in group conversations, where each user has a different color so that the conversation thread would be easier to follow.
The feature allows users to quote media messages as well
Users can enable the quoted messages feature by long-pressing on a message, either a text or media message, and selecting the reply icon from the top of the screen. This places the message right above the reply bar at the bottom and lets users add text to the new reply. The feature also comes with a tool that enables users to remove the quote if they change their minds.
The sent reply will show up inside the conversation with the initial quoted message attached on top of it and the sender’s color coded name. Users who receive the reply can tap on the quoted message and view the initial location of the message in the conversation thread. Quoted images appear with a thumbnail inside the reply.
