New update available for the latest Windows 10 version

Microsoft has released new cumulative updates for Windows 10 day, and of course, version 2004 and 20H2 have received their very own pack of improvements.

Windows 10 version 2004 and 20H2 share the same cumulative update, with the latter representing the most stable version of the operating system.

The cumulative update aimed at the two versions is KB5001330, and in addition to the typical security updates for Windows 10 and the built-in components, it comes with three important fixes.

First and foremost, it resolves a potential elevation of privilege hitting Azure Active Directory, and then, it includes fixes for recently discovered security bugs related to RemoteFX vGPU.

Microsoft explains that because of all these vulnerabilities, future Windows updates will no longer include this feature, as other secure vGPU options are available, including DDA in Windows Server LTSC releases.

No new known issues

The last fix concerns a problem that was originally introduced by another cumulative update.

“Addresses an issue in which a principal in a trusted MIT realm fails to obtain a Kerberos service ticket from Active Directory domain controllers (DC). This occurs on devices that installed Windows Updates that contain CVE-2020-17049 protections and configured PerfromTicketSignature to 1 or higher. These updates were released between November 10, 2020 and December 8, 2020. Ticket acquisition also fails with the error, “KRB_GENERIC_ERROR”, if callers submit a PAC-less Ticket Granting Ticket (TGT) as an evidence ticket without providing the USER_NO_AUTH_DATA_REQUIRED flag,” Microsoft explains.

Just like all the other cumulative updates, KB5001330 can be downloaded from Windows Update on all Windows 10 devices.

At the time of writing, I’m not aware of any installation issues, so in theory, everything should work correctly when trying to install KB5001330, with no new known problems acknowledged by Microsoft until now.
