14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 version 1809, or the October 2018 Update, is one of the versions of the operating system that received an update from Microsoft as part of the May 2020 Patch Tuesday.
The update that it gets is KB4551853, and since it’s a Patch Tuesday release, it’s entirely focused on fixing security vulnerabilities in both the operating system and pre-loaded apps and components.
The changelog of this cumulative update is very similar to the one of the other updates published this Patch Tuesday and includes updates for the 2020 start day of daylight saving time in Morocco, Shell Launcher v2 for improved reliability and usability, as well as the said security fixes.
For example, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, Xbox, are all getting security improvements as part of this updates, and Microsoft says input devices like mice, keyboards, and pens, as well as operations performed by Windows are all more secure now.
Last months of support
What’s important to know if you’re still running Windows 10 version 1809 on your device is that this particular release is already in the last months of support.
Microsoft has recently decided to expand support for version 1809 until later this year due to the global health crisis, so those still running it should upgrade as soon as possible.
“We have been evaluating the public health situation and understand the impact this is having on many of our customers. To help ease some of the burdens customers are facing, we are going to delay the scheduled end of service date for the Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations, and IoT Core editions of Windows 10, version 1809 to November 10, 2020. This means devices will receive monthly security updates only from May to November. The final security update for these editions of Windows 10, version 1809 will be released on November 10, 2020 instead of May 12, 2020,” Microsoft said.
The new cumulative update is available via Windows Update and on the Microsoft Update Catalog.
