The mid-January cumulative update rollout for Windows 10 also includes improvements for the Fall Creators Update, which right now is the oldest version of the operating system that still receives support.

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is thus getting cumulative update KB4480967, which increases the OS build number to 16299.936.

There are lots of improvements in this update, and the first some users may notice concerns multi-monitor configurations. Microsoft explains that in some setups, a window unexpectedly moves to a different monitor when reconnecting to an existing user session.

Additionally, there are refinements for computers which are using a wallpaper configured with a group policy. Microsoft says there were cases when the wallpaper wasn’t updated if it used the same name as the previous image configured as background, so installing cumulative update KB4480967 resolves this behavior.

Two known issues

This new update also includes improvements that are targeting IT pros, like this fix for a Bitlocker error.

“Addresses an issue that causes BitLocker Network Unlock to fail on generation 2 virtual machines when it’s used in a network that only supports IPv4,” the changelog reveals.

This update comes with just two different known issues, and both of them existed in the previous releases too. We haven’t seen any reports of failed installs, and until now, everything has been working correctly on Fall Creators Update systems.

What’s important to know is that the Fall Creators Update is the oldest Windows 10 version that is still supported by Microsoft for Home and Pro SKUs. This means that if you’re running the Creators Update or older you only get such cumulative updates as part of the LTSC branches and on Enterprise and Education SKUs.

You can download the new cumulative update right now from Windows Update on devices running Windows 10 version 1709.
