14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has shipped another cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update), and this is the second patch that lands for this particular OS release in the last seven days.
This time, the update that is pushed to users is KB4471332, and it comes with a rather small changelog, as the majority of known issues were addressed with the previous cumulative update.
However, update KB4471332 fixes a bug in Windows Media Player that causes the seek bar to stop working when playing specific files. This is an issue that impacted Windows 10 version 1803 (April 2018 Update) as well, so with this cumulative update, Microsoft finally resolves it.
Given that the cumulative update lands on Patch Tuesday, it includes security improvements as well, and Microsoft notes the following in the short changelog published today:
“Security updates to Windows Authentication, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Internet Explorer, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Wireless Networking, Windows Kernel, Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Scripting Engine.”
No known issues
The good news is that there are no known issues in this update. This has been the main concern over cumulative updates lately, as most of the previous releases failed to install or caused other problems on Windows 10 devices.
Microsoft says it’s not aware of any problems with this update, and this means that it should install correctly on all devices.
After installation of cumulative update KB4471332, the OS build number should be increased to 17763.194. You can check the version by clicking the Start menu and typing winver.
Windows 10 October 2018 Update is now being rolled out to users worldwide in stages after the company originally pulled it in early October due to a data removal bug. The launch takes place much slower than before given Microsoft’s more cautious approach, and the update should show up in Windows Update on all devices when no compatibility issue is detected.
