Windows 10 version 1803 getting new cumulative update today

The October 2018 Patch Tuesday rollout has started, and obviously, Windows 10 is getting new cumulative updates for all versions on the market.

Keep in mind that although Windows 10 Home and Pro no longer receive updates unless you are running Creators Update or newer (this is actually the last month Creators Update gets patches on these SKUs), both Enterprise and Education are supported as part of LTSC.

Windows 10 version 1803 (April 2018 Update) is getting cumulative update KB4462919, and the first thing you’ll observe is that it bumps the OS build number to 17134.345.

What’s new in this update?

A cumulative update published on Patch Tuesday is first and foremost about fixing security vulnerabilities in Windows 10 and several OS components, and the changelog does not include any other fixes and refinements this time, though there’s a chance they’re there.

While you can read the full release notes in the box after the jump, it’s worth highlighting that security improvements include patches for Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer browsers, the Windows Scripting engine, the kernel, and the Graphics engine. Microsoft says the following:

“Security updates to Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Peripherals, Windows Shell, Windows Kernel, Windows Datacenter Networking, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows Linux, and the Microsoft JET Database Engine.”

You can download cumulative update KB4462919 from Windows Update right now if you’re running the April 2018 Update. We haven’t seen any indication that it may cause issues or fail to install, and the update deployed correctly on the first systems at Softpedia. Delta updates are also available if you just want to deploy the latest changes on a fully up-to-date system.

We’ll continue to monitor reports for possible installation struggles, so check back soon to see if any have been encountered.
