Fall Creators Update getting new update on Patch Tuesday

Microsoft has released a new set of cumulative updates for Windows 10 today as part of this month’s Patch Tuesday cycle, and the Fall Creators Update is one of the versions that are being targeted.

The update for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is KB4093112 and the first thing that you should check after installing it is the build number of the OS. According to Microsoft, it’s 16299.371, but cumulative update KB4093112 comes with a bug causing Windows Update History to incorrectly report it fails to install.

This build number will help you determine whether it installed correctly or not, so hit Win key + R and type winver. If the version number is the one listed above, then the update installed just fine.

As for what’s included in the update, you can check the full changelog in the box after the jump, but worth highlighting are the security updates to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Windows graphics, the Windows kernel, and the Microsoft Scripting engine.

Just one known bug

These are all updates that pretty much make sense since it’s Patch Tuesday and Microsoft ships fixes for vulnerabilities in its products, and this is also what makes today’s cumulative updates pretty important.

In addition, there’s a fix for a printing bug caused by ActiveX in Internet Explorer, as well as for glitches preventing Internet Explorer from identifying custom controls. Most of these improvements are aimed at enterprises, but there’s a chance that home users noticed them too, so they clearly come in handy to everyone.

As said, there is just one known issue in this cumulative update, and it’ll be interesting to see if everything goes smoothly for everyone given that these releases typically cause quite a lot of problems on Windows 10.

We’ll be keeping an eye on reports pointing to possible bugs, but in the meantime, you can check out the full changelog below to see what’s being fixed in this cumulative update.
