elementary OS 5.1.6 is now available for users, and naturally, it comes with a series of improvements that everyone is going to love.

First and foremost, there are updates for Code, including under the hood optimizations that make the app use less resources when running.

“We now show a placeholder in the Outline/Symbols plugin when no symbols are found to prevent the sidebar jumping around when switching through different types of code files. We also addressed an issue where the folder sidebar layout could become squished and empty, ensuring that the “Open project folder…” button remains visible,” elementary explains.

The AppCenter has also received some love this month, including a fix for Flatpak runtime updates that were hidden in the previous update. No new features are available here this month, but all the improvements should make the AppCenter overall more reliable.

Bug fixes are available in Files as well, including for glitches encountered when trying to access files with the # character. The dev team says it also added warnings and error colors in the disk space indicator when you’re running out of space.

elementary OS 6 on its way

Videos should now start much faster, especially when opening large files. elementary OS 5.1.6 also introduces fixes for loading external subtitles, so once again, the overall experience should be much smoother.

There are also notable changes for developers and supposed to pave the way for elementary OS 6. Granite 5.5.0 comes with a bunch of deprecations that everybody must be aware of before the OS update goes live.

“The more important change is the number of deprecations in this release. There are several utilities and widgets in Granite that are now much better handled by Gtk and GLib, and will likely be removed in Granite 6.0,” the changelog reveals.

Of course, if you are already running elementary OS, you can update to the latest version using the AppCenter.
