Even though the Windows 10 April 2018 Update is available right now, the majority of systems in the Windows 10 ecosystem are still running the Fall Creators Update.

All these devices are getting a new cumulative update as part of the Patch Tuesday rollout today, and needless to say, Microsoft recommends users to install it as soon as possible.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4103727 pushes the OS build number to 16299.431 and it includes security fixes not only for the operating system, but also for Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer browsers, the Windows Kernel, the Scripting engine, and others.

When it comes to non-security fixes, cumulative update KB4103727 addresses a problem hitting AMD systems that occasionally lose USB port functionality after resuming from hibernate.

Additionally, Microsoft says that this update includes bugfixes for both Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge browsers, including for a problem that caused the first to experience communication errors between web workers.

One known issue

One particular highlight of this cumulative update concerns a security improvement. KB4103727 increases the user account minimum password length in Group Policy from 14 to 20 characters, a welcome tweak that should help make Windows 10 accounts more secure.

There’s a single known issue in this update, and Microsoft says that it’s already working on a fix and expects it to be part of a next cumulative update for the Fall Creators Update.

“Some non-English platforms may display the following string in English instead of the localized language: ‘Reading scheduled jobs from file is not supported in this language mode.’ This error appears when you try to read the scheduled jobs you've created and Device Guard is enabled,” the firm says.
