If you’re in the market looking for a cheap iPhone but the new iPhone SE isn’t necessarily your favorite cup of tea because of the small screen, then you might want to check the iPhone XR too.

Because beginning this week, Apple is selling refurbished iPhone XR units for sa price that’s getting surprisingly close to the one of the 2020 iPhone SE.

The cheapest iPhone XR is now available from $499. It features a 64 GB of storage, and it was originally sold for $749 before being discounted to $599 after the debut of the iPhone 11.

On the other hand, if you’re looking to get more storage, then the refurbished iPhone XR with 128GB can be yours for $539, again a welcome discount from $649. At launch, this particular configuration was available for $799.

And last but not least, there the 256GB iPhone XR, which now comes refurbished with a $629 price tag, a discount from $749 and $899, respectively.

Android alternative

While at first glance the refurbished iPhone XR could be a threat to the iPhone SE, as the two could cannibalize each other, there’s only a very little chance for this to happen. The iPhone XR comes with a larger screen, so it targets a completely different audience, while the iPhone SE itself features newer hardware, as it runs on the A13 Bionic chip, versus A12 Bionic on the XR.

But on the other hand, the refurbished iPhone XR makes for a very good alternative to mid-range Android smartphones that are available in the $500 price region. With this larger screen, Face ID, and a very appealing price tag, the iPhone XR thus becomes an option that many potential Android buyers could check out, especially if they’ve previously refused the transition to the iPhone due to pricing reasons.
