Codenamed Enyo, webOS 3.0 is the latest mobile platform developed by HP and is expected to be delivered with the TouchPad tablet later this year.

This week, the company made another step towards the release of the platform by announcing the availability of the webOS 3.0 SDK.

However, the SDK is only available to Early Access developers who are interested in creating apps for the HP TouchPad. Developers are required to sign up in order to get access to the Enyo framework.

The announcement was made by Richard Kerris, VP, Worldwide Developer Relations at HP during webOS CONNECT Developer Event Series in London, UK.

Even though some of the development elements in the new platform will eventually appear on some of the company's smartphones, webOS 3.0 will be focused on tablets.

The HP webOS SDK contains the libraries necessary to do both JavaScript and C/C++ development.

Devs will be able to install the SDK on Windows, OS X, and Ubuntu Linux host PCs. It is important to note that for the moment the PDK (Plug-in Development Kit) development is not currently supported on Linux.

The webOS 3.0 SDK allows developers to use the new Enyo framework to integrate Synergy, Just Type, and Exhibition into their apps.

With the Synergy feature, the webOS is able to gather information from multiple sources and display them in one place.

Basically, users are offered the possibility to sign in to their accounts on Gmail, Yahoo!, Facebook, LinkedIn and Microsoft Outlook and integrate all these accounts into a single list.

In addition, calendars from multiple sources can be viewed together or one at a time. For messaging, Synergy combines all conversations with each contact into a single chat-style window.

The newly announced SDK will be receiving its own portal and will be available for download for developers that have been accepted into the Early Access program.
