A new OS update has been released for the Palm Pixi Plus devices available for purchase on AT&T's airwaves, namely webOS 1.4.5. The solution comes a bit later than on other Palm phones, but is here, and offers some pretty appealing features.

One of the most important enhancements is the included support for Palm’s Plug-in Developer Kit (PDK), but various fixes and improvements have been also included into the mix.

System This release includes minor fixes and enhancements to support the public release of the webOS PDK.

Web If a user enters text in a field on certain websites, the screen focus now remains on the text being entered. This release fixes a rare problem so that podcasts now download correctly.

However, the new operating system version also comes with a series of security enhancements, even if Palm does not offer specific info on the matter.

“This release addresses several security issues with the Palm webOS software,” is all that the company notes on the said support page.

The new software update was released on October 11th, 2010, Palm notes on its website, which means that Palm Pixi Plus users should already receive notifications regarding its availability.

AT&T Pixi Plus owners can also go to the “Updates” application on their devices to grab the new solution.

While some are getting ready for the webOS 1.4.5 OS upgrade, others are preparing for the arrival of Palm's next platform version, webOS 2.0, which should land before the end of the ongoing year.

It remains to be seen whether Palm would bring the new webOS 2.0 platform to older hardware too, or only newer mobile phones would be powered by it, such as the Palm Pre 2, which has just emerged over at SFR France.
