Apple has released a new important watchOS update that is supposed to further polish the experience with the big version shipped last month.

watchOS 9.0.2 is therefore an update for the main watchOS 9 release, coming with several bug fixes and improvements to improve the experience on the supported devices.

Apple says it has managed to resolve Spotify issues on the Apple Watch. Spotify itself warned that its music streaming service wasn’t running properly on the new Apple operating system version and told users to avoid updating their devices.

These are fixes that are part of watchOS 9.0.2:

  • Interruptions to streaming audio on Spotify
  • Snooze alarm notifications continue after the alarm is deleted for AssistiveTouch users
  • Incomplete syncing of Wallet and Fitness data for newly paired Apple Watch
  • Audio from microphone interrupted for some Apple Watch Series 8 and Ultra users

What’s new in watchOS 9

Apple’s watchOS 9, on the other hand, is the biggest release this year, coming with plenty of improvements, including support for sleep monitoring.

Although rather basic, the sleep tracking feature brings the Apple Watch closer to its rivals, as most other smartwatches currently on the market feature similar capabilities.

“The Sleep experience on Apple Watch already empowers users to create Wind Down and Bedtime schedules, as well as track their sleep to help them meet their goals. Sleep tracking in watchOS 9 provides even more insights with the introduction of sleep stages,” Apple said.

“Using signals from the accelerometer and heart rate sensor, Apple Watch can estimate when users are in REM, Core, or Deep sleep, and when they are awake. Users will see sleep stage data on Apple Watch in the Sleep app and can view more detailed information, like time asleep, alongside additional metrics, like heart rate and respiratory rate, in sleep comparison charts in the Health app on iPhone.”

watchOS 9, and further revisions, are available for Apple Watch Series 4 and newer.
