Although DOOM Eternal, Final Fantasy VII, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons haven't been affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, other titles like Wasteland 3 won't be released on time. inXile, the studio behind the Wasteland series, has just announced that the development of the game has been negatively impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Because people now must work remotely, it will take more time to implement all the changes and optimizations the studio planned to execute in these last few months of development. As such, Wasteland 3 will no longer be released on May 19, but on August 28.

Brian Fargo explained in a message addressed to fans that the extra months will be put to good use so that players will get a “stellar product” in August.

As with most companies, we moved to a work-from-home environment some weeks ago, and that's of course introduced new challenges that many of us throughout the world have been learning to manage. We've been excited to see the Wasteland 3 Beta so well received, but the reality is that with these new logistical challenges our release was going to be impacted.

We're in a great position with both Microsoft and Deep Silver supporting our desire to ensure the game launches in the best possible circumstances, and to add a few extra months to ensure this is a stellar product on day one. With that, Wasteland 3's new release date is August 28, 2020.”

inXile will use the extra time to implement many of the suggestions that came from players following the release of the Wasteland 3 beta. Also, the studio will work on optimization, polishing and refinements, as well as adding improvements to the co-op experience.

Wasteland 3 is in development for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Xbox Game Pass members will be able to play Wasteland 3 for free on day one since inXile is now owned by Microsoft.
