14 DAY TRIAL // UK mobile provider Vodafone has been producing branded smartphones for some time now, but since the company didn’t make this a priority, the devices didn’t really do well on the market. Now, it seems that Vodafone has finally released a product that could potentially compete against premium handsets: Smart Platinum 7 has all the qualities it needs to challenge major flagships.
Smart Platinum 7 has some really impressive specs, starting with a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and 2.5D Gorilla Glass. It also comes with metal edges and has speaker grilles at the top and bottom. The back of the phone features a glass and metal build with a pattern underneath the 2.5D Gorilla Glass.
The device comes with an 8MP camera on the front and a 16MP rear shooter with phase-detection autofocus and flash. It also sports a dedicated shutter button on its edge, which is pretty nice.
Smart Platinum 7 runs Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out of the box
At its core, the device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal memory. The microSD slot allows users to add up to 128GB of additional storage.
Battery capacity reaches 3,000mAh, and it comes with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 for charging 50% of the battery in about half an hour.
Smart Platinum 7 runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out of the box and comes with multiple Vodafone-branded applications, as one would expect from a carrier-branded phone. Moreover, it also boasts a fingerprint scanner on the back and comes with an included virtual reality headset, which is quite similar to Samsung’s Gear VR.
Vodafone sells the Smart Platinum 7 for £300 ($424), but fans can also get it with monthly payments of £24 ($34). The monthly payment plan includes unlimited talk and text, together with 1GB of mobile data. Sadly, Smart Platinum 7 is only available in the UK, and it goes on sale on June 20.
