14 DAY TRIAL // VLC was, is, and will continue to be the top multimedia player on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X, pretty much because there’s literally no format that it can’t deal with, so every single update is met with great enthusiasm by its users.
And the past weekend, the team over at VideoLAN released a new update to VLC that brings it to version 2.2.4 on all supported desktop platforms, including Windows.
This release is mostly about fixing issues with various components, so you can refer to the box after the jump to read the full change log. But it’s still worth mentioning that VLC 2.2.4 comes with a dedicated fix for Windows XP systems, so if you’re still using this old platform, you should be happy to hear that this release fixes an overall creation for DirectDraw video input.
There are several updated translations, including for French and Italian, but it’s important to note that no new features are being added in this release.
VLC for Windows 10
In the meantime, VideoLAN developers are also working on a Windows 10 version of the player that should see daylight in the coming weeks.
Development has already started on both PCs and smartphones, and VideoLAN claimed that the app could launch not only on PCs and smartphones but also on Xbox One as a universal app.
“We’ve been working on Xbox One for a long time, even considered a Windows 8 app last year, but we could’nt because of the lack of proper APIs. The work on the Xbox One UWP port started in February, and it’s been a pleasure to follow the SDK updates,” VideoLAN’s Thomas Nigro said earlier this year.
In the meantime, users can install the app and run it on the desktop, so go ahead and download VLC for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X to get all the aforementioned bug fixes on your PC too.
