Audio playback quality was improved as well in VLC 3.1.0

VideoLAN updated today the VLC for iOS app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch devices to version 3.1.0, a release that adds some long-anticipated features and several much-needed improvements.

The VLC Media Player is famous for being one of the best free media player applications that can play movies, TV shows, and music in most popular formats without conversion, and it works on all major desktop and mobile platforms. Best of all, the application is open source so anyone can hack it and improve it.

With the VLC for iOS 3.1.0 release, VideoLAN listen to users and finally added Chromecast support, a feature that allows users to stream videos from their iPhone or iPad devices to a TV using that tiny digital media players developed by Google and called Chromecast.

VLC for iOS 3.1.0 also adds support for playing 360-degree videos, which can be viewed by moving your phone or tablet left to right and up and down. Furthermore, it improves audio playback quality as well as the stability and performance of H.264 and H.265 hardware decoding.

Fixed regressions and bugs

Apart from the improvements mentioned above, the VLC for iOS 3.1.0 release fixes that won't allow you to view the files stored on your phone or tablet, as well as several regressions that prevented users from logging into their Google Drive accounts and downloading some media files via HTTP connections.

Last but not least, VLC for iOS 3.1.0 also fixes a regression that could make downloaded files disappear. If you want to enjoy all the new features and improvements, we recommend updating the VLC app on your iPhone or iPad to version 3.1.0 as soon as possible from the App Store.

VLC for iOS requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch device running iOS 9.0 or later. A companion Apple Watch app is available as well for iPhone users, and the application is also compatible with Apple TV devices.
