14 DAY TRIAL // Shortly after Vin Diesel appeared in the first “The Fast and the Furious” movie, he graced the big screen as Xander Cage, an extreme sports star who turns spy and brings bad guys to justice in “XXX.” The movie got a sequel in 2005, but being Diesel-less made it less of a hit than the original.
As Vin confirms on his Instagram page, he’s getting ready to reprise his Xander Cage role, as a new sequel will go into production this year, in December in the Philippines.
It’s called “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” and it comes with an official synopsis that reads as follows: “Xander Cage is left for dead after an incident, though he secretly returns to action for a new, tough assignment with his handler Augustus Gibbons.”
At the time Diesel turned down the role in the sequel and the studio cast Ice Cube as a different character for “XXX: State of the Union,” he didn’t think there was any point in continuing with the story and he also had many other projects on his plate.
Obviously, back then, sequels weren’t as in-demand as they are today, and Vin has had over 10 years to experience that directly. The fact that he’s still riding the wave with “Fast & Furious” is proof enough that sequels are where the big money is at in today’s film industry.
