This is probably just the beginning for this method

Counter-strike: Global Offensive is a massive online game, and it has a problem with cheaters, like any other games of its type. A member of the community took it upon himself to cleanse it and managed to get thousands of people kicked out for cheating.

If you play Counter-strike: Global Offensive long enough, you'll start to notice that some players are doing much better than they should, and you can't really find an explanation why that happens. You probably found someone that is using some sort of hack.

It's a game of whack-a-mole with cheaters. The VAC system in Steam is powerful enough to stop them, but new hacks are being put together all the time. Cheaters are always looking for new stuff to try, so someone figured out a way of getting some of these people banned.

A community vigilante

The right expression would be fishing in a barrel. A user named AndroidL posted on Reddit the simple recipe he used. He built a few fake hacks, which he distributed freely around the community. The effect was devastating.

"The hack edit your view angles to those that should be impossible to get and constantly gives infinite ammo/health. The hacks also do a few other things that ensure a VAC ban would be received. The first two releases had a 'timer' in them which meant the features that instantly VAC banned them would only be activated after a certain time the final hack (with over 3.5k downloads) just instantly VAC bans them as soon as they open the hack and join a game," wrote AndroidL.

With this simple trick, he got more than 3,000 people banned from the game, which is a great achievement. This was a wake-up call for the rest of the cheaters regarding the hack that they use. Now they can't be sure that it's not actually a trap.
