Videocon is a well-known brand in India though the company can't compete with the likes of Micromax, Lava and Karbonn.

The latest smartphone coming from Videocon is probably one of the reasons that the company's products aren't really competitive when put against devices made by rival handset manufacturers.

The new Videocon Z55 Delite has just been officially introduced in India, a new report confirms. If you want a cheap smartphone that runs Android, then you might be better off avoiding the Z55 Delite.

The smartphone is now available for purchase in India for Rs 6,999 ($105 / €95) outright, which isn't too high a price. However, there are many other smartphones in the same price range that offer better value for what you pay.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat is too old even for a budget-friendly smartphone

First of all, the Z55 Delite ships with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system right out of the box, and there's likely no chance that the device will ever be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop (at least).

On the inside, the smartphone packs a 1.4GHz octa-core processor, probably provided by MediaTek, complemented by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory.

Luckily, the smartphone comes with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). Also, Videocon Z55 Delite sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Dragontrail glass coating.

Obviously, it offers dual-SIM support, but there's no 4G LTE connectivity, so you will have to do with 3G HSPA+ support.

At the back, the budget-friendly smartphone packs an 8-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, whereas on the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel camera for video calls and selfies.

Videocon Z55 Delite is powered by a 2,200 mAh battery and offers multiple connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with AGPS support and FM Radio.
