Verizon will be the only US carrier to offer Google’s Pixel smartphones to its customers and there have been many questions regarding Pixel devices sold through this network. Many have feared that Verizon will fill the two phones with bloatware, but as it turns out the US carrier will pre-install only three apps on Google’s phones.

By comparison, the HTC 10 sold by Verizon comes with 11 pre-installed apps, which means that the company really made an effort to reduce its bloatware on the two phones. The question regarding updates remains, though.

A recent report by 9to5Google shows that Pixel models sold through Verizon will receive monthly security updates from Google. This means that the updates will arrive faster and users won’t need to worry that their devices aren’t protected against online threats.

Verizon will handle system updates on Pixel smartphones locked on its network

System updates will be managed by Verizon on variants sold through its network. Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones sold through the mobile carrier will come with a locked bootloader as well. Verizon is offering the Pixel for prices starting at $649.99, or $28.7 per month for 24 months.

Pixel XL has a price starting at $769.99, or $32.08 per month. Verizon also offers a free Daydream View VR headset for each Pixel smartphone sold.

The two devices can also be purchased from third-party retailers and activated on Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, and other US mobile networks.

Google will handle system updates for unlocked models purchased from the Google Store. Speaking of which, Google will also be opening a new pop-up store in New York. Starting October 20, customers will be able to visit the Made by Google located on 96 Spring St New York, NY 10012.

Google announced the store on its website, but didn’t provide any additional details. Customers will most likely be able to test the new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones before purchasing them.
