Street Fighter V developer and publisher Capcom confirm that another classic character is going to appear in the upcoming fighting game, in the form of Vega. The charismatic villain is the star of a brand new gameplay video and some fresh details confirm that, for the first time ever, players can choose to use or discard his trademark claw during combat.

Street Fighter V was revealed to the world at the beginning of the year with just two characters. Since then, Capcom has slowly but surely confirmed more and more fighters for the upcoming game, while releasing different videos, details, and screenshots.

After a controversial beta stage that had to be taken offline due to its many problems, Capcom is heading to Gamescom 2015 this week with a special surprise, in the form of a new fighter - Vega.

Street Fighter V's Vega brings improvements and new gameplay mechanics

Vega, a mainstay of the Street Fighter series since his debut in the second title, arrives in the upcoming title with a few improvements and even some brand-new mechanics, according to the announcement on the PS blog.

For the first time in the series, players can choose to discard Vega's trademark claw during a match and continue the fight using all-new moves that reflect the missing weapon. According to Capcom, players looking for a challenge can get to master both of Vega's styles and then wreak havoc on their opponents.

"He now has the ability to sheathe his claw during battle in exchange for new moves, such as a command grab, as well as new attack properties, greatly changing the way he approaches each fight. Knowing when to toggle between the two styles will be the key to success, and it also allows for new combo possibilities. Conversely, Vega will no longer be able to pick up his claw once it’s knocked off, so knowing how to fight without the claw is a must," Capcom explains.

As you can see in the gameplay video and screenshots below, Vega is looking quite powerful and is certain to give his opponents a run for their money once Street Fighter V rolls around in early 2016.

Gamescom 2015 attendants will be able to play Vega in Street Fighter V at the Sony booth.
