The rumor that Val Kilmer has throat cancer and he's refusing treatment has been around for almost a year

It’s been almost a year since the first report that Val Kilmer might have throat cancer emerged, but the actor insists that there isn’t an ounce of truth to it. Hours after the glossies ran another dire story about his health, he took to Facebook to set the record straight.

Don’t believe everything you read online, he seems to be telling his loyal fans. He doesn’t have throat cancer and he’s not in very bad health, but he did get a medical checkup just recently. At least that part of the report is accurate.

Val Kilmer speaks out

A couple of days ago, a worrying report started making the rounds online, claiming that Kilmer’s health had been deteriorating at such a rapid pace that he was already confined to a wheelchair. The report noted that he had throat cancer and that he continued to refuse to get treatment because of his religious convictions.

His family was worried that, if he kept it up, he might not have long left, and insiders claimed that he had been rushed to the hospital several times recently. On each visit, he refused treatment for the tumor.

The only accurate part from the report was that he’d been to the hospital, Kilmer writes on his Facebook.

“Thank you all for your love and support. There's a rumor I'm unwell again and in hospital which is totally untrue,” he says. “I was in to verify I have no tumor or infection of any kind which was verified by the very caring experts at UCLA.”

The mystery around Val Kilmer’s health

Kilmer was first hospitalized in January, after paramedics were called to his house after he was found on the floor, bleeding from the throat. Prior to that, he had been photographed in public wearing at least one or two scarves tied around his neck, while his figure appeared frailer with each public appearance.

Celebrity pundits, with confirmation from “inside sources,” put two and two together and came up with the conclusion that whatever problem Kilmer had, it had to do with his throat. He admitted as much on social media, but he always insisted he absolutely did not have throat cancer. He also took offense with the suggestion that he would refuse treatment if he were terminally ill because of his religious beliefs.

That didn’t stop the rumor mill, though. In August, he was photographed at LAX with his head covered by a hoodie, and his face hidden behind large dark sunglasses and a face mask. He also appeared thinner, frailer than ever before, which made the latest cancer rumor seem more believable.
