Windows 10 is offered free of charge to consumers running Windows 7 and 8.1, and Microsoft’s figures point to excellent first five-month adoption as far as the new operating system is concerned.

A new survey conducted by research firm IDC in the United States has found that no less than 30 percent of those running Windows on their home PCs had already upgraded to Windows 10 while 27 percent of them were still on Windows 8. Windows 7 was used by only 28 percent of the respondents.

While these figures are very close to each other and show that Windows 10 adoption is indeed going very well, it turns out that those who have already installed the new OS actually love it and would gladly recommended it to someone else.

60 percent of the Windows 10 users claim the opinion on Windows 10 is “favorable” or “very favorable,” CW writes, while only 1 in 10 adopters go for “unfavorable” or “very unfavorable.”

Windows 10 running on 200 million devices

According to Microsoft’s own figures, Windows 10 is running on 200 million devices, which includes not only PCs but also gaming consoles and smartphones.

Estimates point to 180 million PCs powered by Windows 10, with Microsoft expecting these figures to grow significantly in the coming months as the new operating system enters the last six months of the free upgrade offer. Windows 10 is free of charge for those running Windows 7 or 8.1 if the upgrade is performed before July 29, 2016.

At the same time, adoption of Windows 10 is also expected to grow as more enterprises start the migration from a previous Windows version. The company is getting ready to release the Get Windows 10 app for business too, so more companies would be allowed to perform the upgrade to the new OS directly and without additional tweaks. Enterprises, however, will still have to rely on the standard deployment methods.
