Too little, too late: Lumia 960 leaks once again

Another Windows phone got leaked a couple of days ago, and this time it’s the Lumia 960 that Microsoft was internally using for testing a bunch of projects, which themselves haven’t received the go-ahead either.

Lumia 960, the prototype that we’ve seen before in other reports, has recently been spotted in a Chinese leak revealing a model that appears to be working as smoothly as a production model.

Of course, while this can hardly be figured out just by looking at some photos, the images published by @Hikari_Calyx on Twitter seem to suggest the concept was already in an advanced stage, though some reports indicate the whole idea of this project was to help Microsoft test C-Shell.

Possible technical specifications

Nevertheless, Lumia 960 looks like an upgraded Lumia 950, and the specs that made the rounds several times before seem to support this idea.

For example, the device was said to be powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor, which at the time of this phone’s creation, was the best mobile chip around. The CPU was paired with 4GB RAM.

Lumia 960 would have launched with a 5.5-inch display, so there’s a chance this was the XL version of the new series. However, the more impressive thing is that the screen offered support for 4K resolutions, which at that time was quite an innovation.

Like the Lumia 950, this upgraded model would have boasted Windows Hello with a built-in iris scanner, again quite an achievement given that at that point, most phone makers were only offering fingerprint sensors on their devices. These days, facial recognition has become a key feature of high-end phones.

Needless to say, this leak doesn’t change anything about Windows phones. The platform is still in maintenance mode and is only getting critical security updates, with no new features or devices planned.
