There are big chances this is a fake, but who knows?

Apple watchers have probably heard that the iPhone 7 is going to look pretty similar to the current 6s/6s Plus generation (except for the dual camera, which, according to the most recent reports, might not make it to the market because of “technical difficulties”), but it turns out that the company is preparing several upgrades for the upcoming model.

And one of them could be a touch-sensitive Home Button replacing the existing capacitive one that would allow for quicker access to the lock screen, while at the same time providing a more premium look.

This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about a makeover of the Home button, and while it does make sense at some level to see Apple going for such a design, the chances are that these pictures are fake. Renowned leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer, who has actually posted these photos online, explains they are very “sketchy” and points out that there are big chances they’re not real.

New Home button for a waterproof iPhone?

And yet, it would actually make sense for Apple to overhaul the Home button especially because the company is said to be looking into ways to make the iPhone waterproof. A new flat design that wouldn’t allow the water to slip in would clearly help this effort.

But on the other hand, people with knowledge of the matter revealed earlier this year that Apple was planning a major redesign of the iPhone for 2017 that would include a no-bezel design and all-screen front fascia incorporating both the Home button and the FaceTime camera. If this is true, then it makes absolutely no sense for Apple to upgrade the Home button just for one model and then replace it with a completely new design for the next version.

Certainly, there is a lot of unknown information right now, and as you can see for yourselves, contradictory reports keep coming every once in a while. For what it’s worth, nothing is certain right now, and nor will it be, given the fact that Apple remains completely tight-lipped until the official launch.
