Softpedia was informed by Ubuntu member Nathan Haines that the Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase wallpaper contest for the upcoming Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) operating system is now open for entries.

The Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase is now officially open for submissions in an attempt to gather the best and most colorful images from talented photographers and artists from all over the world, which will be included in the upcoming Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) operating system, due for release on October 18, 2018.

"Careful consideration will expose an extraordinary quirk: chromatic changes facilitate a unique mechanism for communication. They change the color of their skin to send communiqués. This codename should encourage wacky and eccentric, but unique and colorful images we can ship in October," said Nathan Haines.

Here's how to submit your artwork to Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase

Photographers and artists who want their images to be displayed on the monitors of millions of Ubuntu users worldwide can now submit their best artwork to the Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase for Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) on the dedicated Flickr group. All artwork must be submitted under the Creative Commons licenses.

Submissions are welcomed until August 13, 2018, so you'll have to hurry if you want to win. Of course, all submissions must follow the Ubuntu Code of Conduct and you should submit your own work, not that of others. Winners will be announced a few weeks before the final release of Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish).

Once again, this isn't a contest in which one wins any prizes, but your photos and images will be showcased in front of millions of Ubuntu users worldwide that will install the Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) operating system this fall, which promises to bring a revamped look and feel with a new default system theme.
