As reported earlier today, Canonical unveiled the latest iteration of its popular Ubuntu Linux operating system, the Yakkety Yak or Ubuntu 16.10, which is now available for your System76 laptop or desktop computer.

While Ubuntu 16.10 is not a very exciting release, as it only introduces a new kernel, systemd user sessions, an experimental Unity 8 session, various performance improvements to the Unity 7 interface, and many updated packages based on the old GNOME 3.20 Stack, some of you might consider it a worthy upgrade from previous releases, such as Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus).

System76, the US-based computer manufacturer specializing in the distribution of laptops, desktop and server computers powered by the Ubuntu Linux operating system, was quick to announce earlier on their official Twitter account that Ubuntu 16.10 is now available as an upgrade option for those running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) or a higher version.

New System76 Lemur laptop now available

If you want the best possible and stable Ubuntu OS for your System76 computer, we advise you to stay on the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS release for now, which will receive support for five years, until April 2021. However, if you still want to upgrade to Ubuntu 16.10, please follow the instructions provided by System76 at http://support.system76.com/articles/upgrade very carefully.

As usual, if there's something you don't understand in the upgrade instructions provided by System76, you can always rely on their prompt and helpful support technicians, who are more than happy to assist you all the way with your upgrade process from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS to Ubuntu 16.10 via email, live chat, or telephone. In other news, we remind you that System76 just launched a new Lemur laptop with Intel Kaby Lake CPUs.
