French developer and publisher Ubisoft has just announced the upcoming release of a brand-new game in the Assassin's Creed franchise.

However, unlike the latest Assassin's Creed Syndicate that made its way to PC and consoles last year, the new title will be exclusively launched on mobile devices.

Assassin's Creed Identity is supposed to head back to the Italian Renaissance, which was the background of one of the most beloved games in the series, Assassin's Creed II.

According to Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed Identity is an action-RPG for iOS devices, which challenges players to solve The Mystery of the Crows through a series of story missions and quests.

During their search for the truth, players must navigate through various cities of the Italian Renaissance, and some of their most popular landmarks, using multiple control options, including touch-to-move, dual virtual sticks.

On top of that, Assassin's Creed Identity allows players to use a gamepad to control the main character in the game.

Speaking of which, Ubisoft confirmed the game provides players with the option to create a new, novice Assassin from one of the four available classes: Berserker, Shadow Blade, Trickster, or Thief.

More details about the game will be unveiled on February 3

Naturally, as you progress into the game, your Assassin will become more powerful and vicious. No additional details on the progression system have been revealed yet, but Ubisoft promises a Q&A with the game's creative director will be released on February 3.

As mentioned earlier, Assassin's Creed Identity will only arrive on iOS platform, and it will require iOS 7 and an iPad 3 or later model, or an iPhone 5 or later model.

The game should make its debut in App Store on February 25, and for the time being, there's no information on an Android version of Assassin's Creed Identity.

It's also worth mentioning that Assassin's Creed Identity has been developed by Ubisoft's studio Blue Byte, the same team that launched PC games like Battle Isle and The Settlers 15 years ago.

More recently, the folks over at Blue Byte are responsible for Panzer general Online and Might and Magic: Heroes Online (in collaboration with Related Design).
