Video game publisher Ubisoft is ready to reveal that its studio in Singapore, which has played a supporting role in the development of a number of high-profile video games, is right now taking the lead in the creation of a new major project for both the PC and home consoles, although an official name has not yet been announced.

Gamespot is quoting Olivier de Rotalier, the Managing Director of the company's Singapore and Southeast Asia operations, as saying that his team has been happy to be involved in some experiences over the years, developing expertise with AAA titles and PC-based online action.

He adds, "We've built 10 AAA games in seven years. And now our studio is leading one of the biggest Ubisoft projects on console and PC."

The Singapore studio has been praised for the work it has done on the then-new naval battle features in Assassin's Creed 3, which were eventually expanded to be one of the main ideas powering Black Flag and Rogue.

Ubisoft is also creating a new studio in the Philippines, which will be initially staffed with developers from Singapore, to gain more capabilities to create video games there in the coming years.

Rotalier says that 50 developers will work as part of the new team by the end of this year and that the total number is set to reach 200 soon after.

Singapore might be working on the new Assassin's Creed

Given the studio's associated with the franchise and the fact that the statement does not say a new franchise is involved, the team might be working on the new open-world stealth and action title that will arrive in 2017.

Ubisoft confirmed in February that it was not offering a new Assassin's Creed this year because it wanted to take a look at the core ideas that power the series and make sure that it can be improved to use new ideas and to take advantage of new technologies.

Unity failed to attract the amount of sales and positive criticism that the company was working for, and taking a year off will mean that fans of the franchise will be more interested in the game that is arriving next year.

The Singapore studio might also be working on Watch Dogs 2, which has been confirmed as launching before the end of the current fiscal year, with some sources saying that it will debut this fall.
