Meet aliens, train astronauts, extract some cheesy goodness

I am currently running courses that teach humans to act like the captains of famous science fiction series and aliens to act more like humans. It’s not an actual space program but it is what potential students want and are ready to pay for.

As I cover my campus with alien-inspired vegetation and food stalls, I am also setting up an expanded student club. The big goal is to organize a big convention, push up the quality of life in my institution and boost average grades.

Two Point Campus: Space Academy is developed by Two Point Studios and published by SEGA. I played on Steam on the PC. This is the first piece of downloadable content for the game, introducing everything players need to educate students about aliens and space travel.

The centerpiece is made up of three new locations where players can create the game’s weird brand of educational institution. Cape Shrapnull envisions first contact and alien diplomacy as entertainment, with the ability to teleport students around. Universe City features more traditional astronauts and rockets, with a focus on research.

Finally, Cheesy Heap: Delta Rye takes gamers to a meteorite made of cheese, with two flavors of aliens thrown in. Space Academy uses the same irony and joke-heavy tone as the base game, with a lot of puns in all the right places. The six new courses come complete with matching classrooms and student archetypes. A club and three new events round out the extra options.

Players will also unlock a range of space-themed items to blanket their campus with for a boost of attractiveness. Gameplay is still driven by the need to constantly satisfy students’ needs while keeping a positive monetary balance and high academic performance.

Gamers will start out choosing courses and placing the necessary classrooms, as well as support rooms, like dormitories and staff lounges. Then it’s a matter of discovering what boosts grades and adding that to the campus. Invest in better staff or train them up, and place enough amenities and good decorations to keep most visitors enchanted. And be sure to try and organize events that enhance the courses you’re currently teaching.

Kudosh, obtained by improving the level of the university and by completing specific missions, is more important than money in the long term. Students will constantly ask for unlocks, so try to satisfy the ones with the smaller costs first.

The space theme, especially the more weird courses, fit the mechanics of Two Point Campus well. The game is easy to understand, even as it adds complexity and a lot of student requests. The biggest issue is that even the highest speed level feels slow when a campus is running well and everyone is waiting for the academic year to end.

Two Point Campus: Space Academy introduces a range of rooms and items but does not tweak the presentation too much. Zoom in to look at students and staff up close and click to see details on their needs. Stay zoomed out to have a clear idea of what and where to build to satisfy progress requirements. The sound design is good, although the little skit jokes can become a little annoying.

Conclusion

Space Academy is a very good first DLC for Two Point Campus. The themes allow developers to deliver a ton of silly concepts and draw inspiration from classic and modern science fiction. Campus building and management have just enough to be challenging, without moving into frustration territory.

The new content is a definite Yay for players who have completed all the levels featured in the core game. It’s also well suited for anyone with a love for both science fiction and management games. Two Point Campus has a solid base and I hope future DLC will add more weird themes and innovative classrooms.
