Because, you know, Trump has repeatedly broken the rules

Most world leaders are already on Twitter, and probably the best example is the one of former United States President Donald Trump who used the social network to share messages on a regular basis.

But at the same time, it’s also not a secret that Trump repeatedly broke the Twitter rules, and yet, his account hasn’t been banned until his President days were almost over.

And now, the social network says it wants users to be the ones to decide if world leaders should be treated like everybody else or not.

Public survey kicking off today

While the answer is pretty clear, Twitter says it’ll launch a program to get feedback in this regard, with a public survey to go live in multiple languages. It will kick off today and then run until April 12.

“Generally, we want to hear from the public on whether or not they believe world leaders should be subject to the same rules as others on Twitter. And, should a world leader violate a rule, what type of enforcement action is appropriate,” Twitter says.

“Starting on March 19, we’ll be calling for responses to a public survey that will help inform the development of our policy framework. The questionnaire will be available in the coming days in 14 languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, Farsi, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, and Urdu. This is to ensure a global perspective is reflected in the feedback and mirrors the approach we've taken with previous public surveys.”

At the same time, the company says it’s also working on experts in human rights and a number of civil society organizations, all with the purpose of updating its policy in a way that makes more sense for everybody.

More information will probably be offered shortly after the survey comes to an end.
