Twitter.com seems to be down once again due to an unknown reason, but a growing number of reports confirm that the service is at least experiencing some malfunctioning in select regions.

At the moment, the company hasn’t yet issued a statement to confirm if Twitter is having problems or not, but we’re getting reports from our readers telling us that the official website can no longer be accessed, while clients fail to connect on both desktops and mobile.

For the moment, the majority of reports pointing to Twitter being down come from Japan and the east cost of the United States, but more users across the world seem to experience dramatic slowdowns as well.

According to various sources, Twitter started having problems at approximately 12:50 AM EST, but this information can’t be confirmed just yet. The official Twitter accounts haven’t yet acknowledged the downtime, but more information will certainly surface lately.

Hacks or malfunctioning?

At this point, there are plenty of rumors out there regarding the reason why Twitter might be down, and some users point to a scenario that could make sense at some level.

Given the fact that election day is tomorrow and Twitter is one very popular channel for information in this regard, there are sources that indicate the service might be under attack. Earlier this year, there were concerns that Russian hackers might attempt to disrupt the elections by launching a cyber attack against the United States, but for the moment, it’s not yet clear if this is the case this time or not.

We have already contacted Twitter to ask for more information in this regard and will update the article should we receive an answer. If you're also experiencing issues connecting to Twitter, make sure you leave us a comment in the box below.
